Recovering Lost Accounts
I find it difficult to believe that after all these years, Discord can't find a way to verify identity properly to manually change an email. You guys really need to figure that out. I changed my email on one of my Discord accounts I had for over two years and that had nitro. Apparently, I mistyped the email account though, so when it changed, it changed to an email account that I have no clue what it was. When I go to the confirmation emails Discord sent to the og email account used to change it, it doesn't say in the confirmation email what the new email account is either. If I have proper access to my og email (Which is essentially assumed since that is being used as verification) and I am changing it, why wouldn't it provide that info? There's no security issue with that. Apparently I am not the only one that has had issues like this. I keep reading how many people get cut off from their emails due to various reasons and so can't change the associated email account.
This is incredibly frustrating as now I have had to gather back up all the servers and friends I made over the years and I have lost contact with some friends entirely because that was our only source of contact. Not only this, but I had personal info in some DMs with friends, so now if someone else were to make a Discord account with whatever email account I accidentally changed it to, they're gonna have access to MY PERSONAL INFO. ID SAY THAT'S MORE OF A SECURITY ISSUE THAN ANYTHING ELSE.
To add insult to injury, my annual nitro sub just renewed a month ago, so that's great, $90 wasted. I even offered in the support email chain to tell them the payment method used and the last 4 digits of the method because that alone SHOULD BE ENOUGH RIGHT? Apparently not. Okay, how about you send me a verification text to the number associated with the account? Oh, no? WHY NOT? Every other service seems to have some type of recovery option associated with any of these methods to establish identification. Seriously, Discord needs to find a solution for this. There are so many faults in this. Absolutely ridiculous. Now I am out nearly $100, lost a bunch of friends/connections and my personal info is compromised because they refuse to fix an issue that has been brought to their attention multiple times for years.
