If you're thinking about canceling Nitro after seeing your first ad in the app, consider reviewing the benefits Nitro offers, such as an ad-free experience and additional features, to determine if they outweigh the inconvenience of encountering ads. Check https://www.streameastguide.com the cancellation policy to understand any potential refunds or remaining subscription time. It might also be helpful to contact customer support to address your concerns and explore solutions, such as adjusting ad preferences or resolving any issues with your subscription. Additionally, evaluate if there are other plans or services that might better meet your needs. Taking these steps can help you make an informed decision about whether to continue with Nitro or explore alternatives.

If they want money from ads, they are NOT getting my money for Nitro.

I wanted to encourage a business that had integrity.

    This is gone now.

Are you sure that's on Discord and not YouTube itself?

Discord is just providing access to YouTube through itself. YouTube is the one adding ads. I could be wrong though.

    Yes,

It's through the embedded player, normally Discord don't put the ads through but they are sometimes pulling up.

I see. I could understand this happening to people without YouTube Premium but, as someone with Discord Nitro and YouTube Premium, if I started seeing ads, I would understandably be very upset as well. When Amazon and Netflix started adding ads to their subscription members, I had the “what am I paying for, then?” moment and moved on.

I guess it depends on YouTube's ToS and what agreements they make with Discord for whether Discord Nitro could fairly block ads for users.

If it's a significant issue, you can block the ads instead, but doing that in the Discord client is a bit more involved than just doing it in Chrome/Firefox.

    That's exactly it,

    Except there is more.

The creator of Discord promised that they would never sell our user information to advertisers and wanted to keep the platform financed with subscriptions and micro transaction ONLY.

THE ISSUE, is that Discord will now turn into another “skype” or the like through their Quest project, soon ads will flood the app and there is no point in paying for a subscription if they will sell the soul of the company to advertisers

We will have to switch to another app soon, it was a good run fellas.

    Rip Discord.

You’re right it’s frustrating when ads pop up especially with Discord Nitro and YouTube Premium. I remember when Discord’s creator promised no ads and to rely solely on subscriptions and microtransactions. If the ads continue, it feels like a breach of that promise. For instance, I’m working on my bench blaster gym accessories and would love to see the same commitment to user experience in all services.

Can't believe how Discord Support is getting flooded by the AI slop accounts that advertises websites.

Normally you wouldn't get ads if you have Discord Nitro/YT Premium, but if you do get, then there's something bad happened.

    Oh it's cancelled alright.

And for those mentioning Nitro/YT premium…

    Just a clarification:

For you to be presented with a “personalized” ad ever… Your user information (albeit an “anonymized” version of it allegedly) as to be sold to them first.

if you ever see an ad in app, no matter how no matter where, you've been sold off.

That's exactly the promise the company broke, it's done and over with, I am no longer getting them Nitro money, neither should you.

Not that it helps the root issue/complaint in any way, but if you're someone who gets reacted to with :nerd: emojis all the time, you may be interested in setting up your own home network.

Custom router (with custom firmware). Fully configurable down to the subnets.

Home server running Home Assistant, Plex, PiHole, Unbound, Proxy, etc…

Great for home automation, and I don't get ads (or trackers) anywhere, even if I'm not home, through my private network, which can also be VPN'd for select/remote devices. That would take care of all of your ad, tracker, and anonymity concerns.

Canceling my nitro too. I pay to support discord. I love the service. But if you show me ads, my paid subscription is not good enough for you. So I'll keep my money.

Guys, I don't think Discord is the one doing it. I think it's YouTube.

I think YouTube saw enough embedded content being watched that they added ads to embeds.
