Thank you for the info, KiCkJr! That is so helpful.

I was not aware of the ability to change the hex values for Discord's colors as KiCkJr mentioned and I am now having fun making my Discord blue and pink so I extremely back the idea of letting people customize the colors for their Discord window, not only as a solution to theme issues but also because it's kinda fun.

Making this an easily-accessible feature could fix a couple issues with editing the hex values, most notably that some sections are tied together (like the channel list and member list, which significantly was different in the old light theme) and that it's not always clear what an element will change (which results in a lot of repeated testing). A proper feature in settings would presumably remove both these issues.

Right now the simplest fix for what seems to be a fiasco is to make the old light theme available alongside the new one and dark theme (chocolate-vanilla swirl theme). After that, some time to set up a UI or whatever (confession, half the words I'm saying this this comment I'm just guessing at the correct use) for people to easily change their Discord colors would result in a fantastic addition.

Thank you for your support, Duth Olec :) And yes, it is kinda fun, but for me it is mainly usability at this point.

I guess one of the issues and reasons why this is not a thing, might be that you can pick colors for groups on a server and some of those might work for one theme, but not for another. However, the same issue stands currently with the white vs. dark theme, so this would not be any different.

I think allowing people to make their own theme would be a good option, on top of providing the light and dark ones. Maybe on the long run, allow people to submit their CSS so that others can use them as well? I get that setting up a whole UI with one input by element could be troublesome, but it would be nice to have a dedicated window with the relevant CSS so that you can build upon it to create your own theme. That way, people who know their way around CSS are happy and people who don't have a chance to play with it a little, provided the classes and ids have intuitive names.

I think the concept of this could actually be really interesting in different ways.

Yes, a customization option would be a crucial update to discord. In my opinion, you should be able to fully customize the themes, possibly being able to add pictures to specific parts of discord would also allow for a ton of variety, examples could be simple background patterns or pictures of your favorite movie/game/series/franchise/etc. I hope that discord will take a look at this post and reconsider the 'Choice between all-white and all-dark'

i dont really think a different theme per server would be that great of an idea

though just a custom theme for yourself, that would be actually useful

you know, like betterdiscord's custom css except... made simpler and an official feature. this would actually solve several issues people have, for example color blind people could set custom colors for everything. many people dislike this new update and this would solve most of people's complaints

Being able to customize every aspect of discord should just be a built in feature for everyone
If black text on white makes you nauseous and can only read green text on red you should be able to

Maybe they could add a few default themes or allow any user to change at least certain colors (like chat text, background color, anything in the application really), and make it a nitro feature to be able to add picture backgrounds and/or fully customize any color?

That way it satisfies basic user needs, and gives people more incentive to use nitro if they want extra features.

I think this is a more reasonable suggestion than "give us the option to go back to any of the previous layouts/themes" or "just make it less ugly." It also means that people who have specific requirements (color blindness or any of a whole host of other visual disabilities) can set things up in a way which is perfect for them.

I would love to see this implemented! The ability to choose your own theme within Discord would be absolutely amazing!

Such an easy thing to change with absolutely no downside; make it clear it may break the client and that Discord cannot provide support for custom themes and just let us either drop in CSS or side load it from a folder (the way tools like BD do) so we can have multiple separate files loaded.

Should not need (Bandaged)BD for Discord to ahve this basic functionality

There is already "Better Discord". Which basically does all the stuff you want.

Using Better Discord or other similar app/clients are against Discords ToS and can get you banned so that not really an option.
But if Discord builds it in the there own app that would be nice.

Yeah @, that is against the ToS. I agree with @ZixeSea, as a Nitro consumer, to have the ability to customize my Discord GUI would be absolutely stunning, there are so many things that I would love to change on my personal client that would just give it that extra feeling of home sweet home.

I believe that this is something that should seriously be considered by Discord as it would honestly be an amazing feature that in my opinion would be near unanimously adored!

Oh really? Any kinds of plugins and other things doing some nice stuff in Discord is against TOS?

Yep, I'm pretty sure anything that modifies the client is against the ToS. I'd have to go over it to confirm.

Please, can we have AMOLED Black theme or Darker Dark theme in general for desktop and mobile use?

If Discord would partner with BetterDiscord thus screening the themes with a system to prevent malicious code, the community would be much livelier. With the BetterDiscord comes a marketplace which allows users to create a hub where they can share their creation with the community to download freely. ALSO, it would let the Official Servers/Game Companies to create a themed discord theme for people to download and use.

This is a great idea! I'd love to edit my font, text color and stuff.

I mean, this would be nice, but I don't think it would make up for the loss of the game library.

I also think this is a great perk for nitro user like how they did in osu! for custom backgrouind, notification sounds and some login and logout custom voice line. People now are using BD because of the customize chat background. It a great way to thinking in this path.

Btw, there's no reason the new light theme, old light theme, dark theme, and everything else couldn't be a preset. Even Disco Fever.

i saw several threads talking about client-side hexcode customissation which linked back to here desspite client themes and server themes being two very different things. regardless, a custom hexcode theme in which the user would be able to Personalize disscord by having an option to change each default hexcode (or at the Very Leasst the entire colour palette) would be very nice.

Ive been waiting for more server customization. Pretty much the main thing i want with nitro

More or less what I was to say yesterday. What we can expect is client-side settings for themes like possibility to change color, upload picture for pattern/background image or tweak some features. The thing is, this is already possible with just playing within Discord App with a little bit of knowledge of CSS and HTML. However, these changes won't be permanent and discord does not keep them upon restart. Also, giving people opportunity to write their own CSS themes would do more harm than it seems. Settings for customization sounds reasonable, although I'm person who really like to customize things to fullest, so I'm pretty much for strapped CSS (Some CSS elements disabled for accessibility reasons)
