Message Threads
FuldførtHi Discord Team and dear reader!
This would be a feature request for Message Threads, like we can see on Slack.
As a matter of fact, when sending messages in a crowded channel (+15ppl) conversations can easily get lost in the mix. Message threads solve this issue by creating a "sub-channel" on the message that initiated the thread, allowing participants to continue their conversation without spamming the main channel and allowing other users to do the same.
Thanks a lot,
loving Discord!

Threads as first-class citizens is something that Zulip also does. But the problem here is that you are coming from a different context. This makes sense in a working/team-environment, but most chats in Discord are casual and you are not there for talking about a specific topic. Yes, the way Slack handles threading is non-ideal for its use-case, but it fits a lot better to a more casual app like Discord.

threads please! or at least an acknowledgement that this feature request has been noted and is either being considered or outright rejected
4 -
yes please! chat goes by so fast and things get lost, threads would allow people to dive deeper into the conversations they're most interested in and keep things visually organised.

open source communities _need_ threads.
with servers with 2k people, the help channel can easily get hard to follow. :-\3 -
I second what NullVoxPopuli said 🎉
And we already know that Discord cares about open source communities because of this awesome page: https://discordapp.com/open-source

Yes!! We use Slack at work and it's easier to follow a topic by adding a thread to the parent post!

Telegram does this really elegantly. I definitely think it's worth looking into.

Threaded conversation is something that Discord really needs. This is the main reason why I didn't switch to Discord for productive collaborative work yet.

Guys, please, we really REALLY need this...

Sad thing is that... "Quoting" request wasn't implemented yet even with 11.000+ upvotes... I see no hope for this "Thread" request with only 200+ upvotes.
That's the only feature request I've ever followed in my entire life... This must be the third or forth topic I've found about it... Previous ones all got removed(?).1 -
telegram also does this quite well

When there is a chat threading, i would even recommend it as an enterprise company communication tool (replacing slack, and skype). I think thats the only missing "killerfeature".

Message threads are an awful feature of Slack, so poorly implemented they're annoying to use and I wish to tell everyone always to stop using them, or that there was a feature that disabled them for me.
Completely separate view just to see what has happened in threads? That doesn't actually update in real time when messages get added to it? etc.-5 -
@lietu
You do have a separate view in Slack, but you also have a side panel which is *extremely* useful. You have the main channel on the center of your screen where you can see *important* messages, and every reply gets put into their respective thread which you can then open in your side panel ==> you never lose sight of the main channel and you get to organize it at the same time,
If you don't like threads for any other reason and discord ends up putting them, I'm sure they will be more than happy to add a "I don't like threads" option in your server settings to prevent your users from using them.4 -
When I'm not willing to dedicate an entire screen to a chat app those side panels don't really work, they clutter up the thing and become so tiny that I can't really read reasonable amounts of anything in the main view or the sidebar.

Oh and considering they're not willing to add an option to disable the Nitro gift -box, they might just decide to force threads on everyone as well.

Absolutely must have!

Threads are a huge thing to have. It is so neccessary, to keep multiple conversations at once. Especially if the conversations are time-independent.
This is prob. the largest feature Slack have over Discord.
Pretty much just copy-pasting the feature from slack would be a fine implementation.

Why not just message under them?

Go go go! Good feature. We games will love that!

Would love to see this!

Threads would greatly improve the usability for large communities with many parallel topics / longer conversations. Please make it available. Thanks!

+1

This would be perfect for help channels. If many people are asking questions, things just get buried so fast.

i really need this feature for my bot. i dont want to crowd chat with information I would rather reply to the person activating the command

+1 for threads, for the same reasons everyone else had :)
