Move Gift Nitro chat button to profile panel
The new button in the chat box for gifting nitro subscriptions is in a really obstructive spot. I feel a better spot for that button would be either in the user's profile panel, or at the top of the chat with the call and pinned messages buttons.
Thanks for being awesome

Yeah, it's annoying as Hell.

The gift and gif buttons both should be removable in the app (and the emoji button IMO, but whatever.)
The gift button is just inexcusably awful though.

Yeah, both buttons are absolutely annoying, and both of them need to be able to be disabled. I don't even use the emoji button, but at least it has a use for most people.

My idea: have check boxes in the appearance menu that let you disable each button individually. Some people might not like the emoji button either, so the ability to disable them would be absolutely epic.
The new gift and gif buttons are really annoying and hurt the UX.
Edit: the "star" button on images should be toggleable too.

This I can agree with, it's a big honking spot on the already cramped chat space. At least gifs has some functionality but there are much better spots to mention gifting without being this aggressive.

I was a Nitro supporter for over a year when Nitro was a way to support the development of Discord.
Putting an ad for it when I already was paying monthly, and worst of all putting it in the most inconvenient place where I'm gonna click it on accident felt straight up scummy.2 -
Agreed. It doesn't belong in the chat bar. Keep it on the home page. I actually pointed it out on twitter and got a response: https://twitter.com/discordapp/status/1081511090855522304

Yea, seems like I wasn't the only one annoyed by it.
Great feature, and it could have a place e.g. around the top bar or something, but chat bar is the wrong place for it.2 -
I agree, it really doesn't belong there. It feels like an intrusive push for monetization, though I might just be sensitive from all the drama going on with AAA games. Anyways, I really don't see myself dropping ten bucks on a whim like that and really only pressing it by accident. I like the gifting nitro idea though, don't know how long that's been around but I might use it in the future.

I would like to remove this as well.

I can't even use Nitro because, despite games being available on multiple OS platforms, Nitro insists on only allowing the Windows versions to be available. I use the emoticon button all the time, I will use the Gifting Nitro button zero times on purpose but probably hundreds of times accidentally thanks to this unnecessary enforcement of its position. I've not yet gained access to the GIF button, presumably it's on another OS's client.

The best compromise between discoverability of this feature and end-user experience I can think of is to put it somewhere in the Home tab. It has no business being on the text entry box. Doubly so for those who've already paid for a Nitro subscription.
At the very least, I'd like the option to hide the icon.

I understand the developers wanting to highlight the ability to gift Nitro to others but the chat box is just about the worst place to do it. It makes zero sense from a UX standpoint.
My intuition tells me it should be on a user's profile flyout so you can gift Nitro to that specific person. The current location seems like an advertisement. This is especially annoying as someone who already pays for Nitro.
If nothing else, I would love the Discord developers provide the option to hide the icon. It could even be hidden deep in the User Settings dialog. I don't mind it being there, I just don't want to see it on **my** client.

I am never in my life going to buy Nitro, let alone gift it to someone else. Constantly having an ad in my chat box for it is annoying at best, scummy at worst.

Yeah, not everyone wants to be clicking it when they reach for the emojis. Don't need nitro sliding into my DM's when you could have made this button an opt-in thing. Not to mention it was in a bloody stealth update.

Agreed. Just...any feature you guys think is nifty? Ok, sure - but add an opt-in button or a disable button. Humans are often creatures of habit.

@Vap0rize because it's annoying as f.
The only thing that needs to be there is the emoji button. Discord is awesome because it was clean and simple. Now they're cluttering the chat bar with multiple extra buttons that nobody will ever use, or maybe use once in a blue moon. (It's not just the gift thing that they're adding, but also GIF, etc).
If anything they should at least give us the option to disable these extra buttons. Then there would be no problem at all. Just have them enabled by default so it still gets noticed (which is their intention with this change), but if a user wishes to, they can disable it.

its in a very distracting place. perhaps int he right click context menu when you click on other users. if i want to gift people stuff, doing it via that menu would be my place to look.

I would also like to voice my displeasure in seeing the "gift nitro" button. It's basically an "f-you, give us more of your f-ing money" to the people that already pay for Discord Nitro. Give us a way to disable it, or better yet, remove it entirely and hide it in the context menu when you click on a user.

I consider this button spam. Why not also stick a button to quick-buy off-brand pharmaceuticals beside it? Discord Nitro= #ad

Who is so rich and gifting so often that they need the icon right there in the text entry box? This is bad UX.
As others have said, it would be more elegant and less annoying if it was on people's profiles. Or at the very least, have an option to disable it.I'm sorry Discord, I already pay for Nitro for myself and can't afford to give you more money.

Please move these away from the chat box and somewhere at the top next to mute/pin/member list if not an option to hide them entirely. if they really have to stay for whatever, that seems like the best place to put them, it's out of the way but still visible and keeps the discord window from being a cluttered mess.

Seriously, this is the most annoying crap. I understand you gotta pay the bills, but this is just excessive and obnoxious. I have shaky hands from an injury and I keep hitting this damn gift box when trying to select the chat or click the emoji button. It's annoying, it's in the way, and it's a dumb constant reminder that you guys just want my money every time my mouse flicks over it. Avoiding constant advertising and trying to sell me things while keeping in touch with family is the reason I moved to Discord from other messaging services in the first place.

This is the kind of update that gets me to not update for months at a time.

This has become infinitely worse with the new GIF button, taking up even more space and being even more irritating and useless as I continue to accidentally click it. Add a toggle button.
On mobile, just give up.
