Surprised this was added on desktop tbh, since mobile devices are the ones who need to save bandwidth the most

It shouldn't be that hard to add this feature on mobile discord. We need this...

Please, oh please, do NOT just change to this!! That the iOS app doesn't auto-disconnect is my favorite feature! PLEASE, make it an OPTION we can toggle...

This would be a good option to save my data and battery when I too fall asleep like an infant while in a call

Please make it an option for PC as well. I want to be able to chill in a voice chat alone so people that are online can see that I'm up for conversation and can join. I mean, you can force mute but at least make it an option.

I agree with Outrun. I fall asleep with my boyfriend at night and sometimes itll disconnect one of us but we wanna rejoin in the morning to surprise the other without waking the other up by calling them lol. honestly glad this isnt on mobile cuz i usually use that but i do use my laptop a good bit as well and on my pc itd be nice. like sometimes one of us will have internet issues so itd be nice to be able to stay in the call so they can rejoin when its fixed. also the reason it disconnects at night in the first place. it should honestly just be an option in the settings

Gf’s iPad keeps disconecting when she sleeps. This makes me wait all the night until she eventually wakes up overnight and reconnects. Please disable the 5 mins disconnecting on discord pc, please, save my scolarship

If this becomes a thing please make it able to be toggled. the fact it doesn't disconnect after 5min is my favorite feature as someone who is in a LDR where both of us stay in call often when the other accidentally disconnects overnight or when afk and such. (also making it a toggle option on desktop would be great too)

    This. So much.

Like some have already said, having a toggle so someone can choose whether they get kicked after 5 minutes or if they can stay on their own would be absolutely ideal. There are situations where I wish this feature was available on desktop so that one can sneak back into an overnight call with a loved one, and there are situations where I really wish it WASN'T like when my friend falls asleep on a call with me on mobile and his phone dies even if I leave the call because discord doesn't automatically drop, and this means he has neither his alarm nor any means of getting wake-up calls from people. This is a huge oversight. Especially since data drain is far, far more of an issue on mobile apps than on PCs as some people might be relying on mobile data for the calls (and like you said - that doesn't grow on trees!).

They should make it an editable option, I want to fall asleep on call when I'm in VCs-

For some reason it happened to me but right away and not after 5 minutes

Why do people think this is a good feature, like it sucks.

    Folks, my2c..

    • I understand why some think this should be an option.
    • I can also see how, technically, it's rather _cool_ for a call to stay on and be automatically disconnected "to save bandwidth",
    • what I fail to understand is why would I want to remain on a 1-on-1 private call when the other party has hung up and left the conversation?!

This is obviously different for "rooms" or "stages" (in the real world you can walk into an empty room!) but when it comes to a 1-on-1 conversation, what is the point in staying connected (or requiring each user to manually disconnect).

Discord Technical Prowesses aside... Considering the scenario where many community members are not tech-savvy and often from a different "generation", I don't see the harm in sticking to the old "approach" of disconnecting when there's a single party on the line, like phones and faxes have done since day one!

If this turns into an option, please make the default selection to just hang up when a single user is on the line (even if this is harder to implement in a multicast socket scenario!)

well, ryders, it's so much easier to stay in a call and wait for someone to decide to join (and show you are open for conversation) then to repeat calling to get the message around that you want to call and getting people spam pinged.

I wish it had a toggle feature on desk top, and if it were to come to mobile I think it'd be good to have one there too. Automatically disconnecting is only helpful if you want it to, otherwise it's just annoying. (My opinion of course.)

I absolutely feel the same. Whenever my bf has to leave call for a job or something I want to stay in call so he can just rejoin instead of having to ask to call again.

Why is this not a thing yet lol

This is obviously way more relevant for users on mobile than desktop it should be a toggle

Discord says they do this to save on bandwidth, but.. Why can't they just do so video and audio doesn't get sent to their servers if a person is alone in a call? so that all that's needed is a check like a "hello, has someone joined yet?" every second or so to save on bandwidth. This is not hard. I want to call a person who isn't available at this moment but I know they'll be available in 15 minutes and they can join whenever.

I really don't see any reason for why this isn't a thing..

Whatever justification, it's not how most people expect the calling feature to function. It is also a big privacy concern as people subconsciously presume the call has ended when the other party hanged up, and don't realize that they can rejoin the call later on w/o them noticing.

It's a niche feature to begin with, with it being the default behavior making it ever more questionable, but not having an opt-out option from it is just bizarre that I personally fail to explain to others when they ask about it.

Hey, Discord PMs, how difficult it is to add it? It's evident from this thread that people have been clamoring for it for years, can that be actioned, please?

This is actually a really good feature to add because I was on the call with my gf and we both slept on the call overnight for 2 days and then she disconnected on the 3rd night in the morning but I wasn't disconnected after 5 minutes and then I was able to stay on the call forever until she returned so from that point everytime she left the call I would still be fine and alone in the call without being disconnected but then my Laptop automatically restarted causing me to leave the call so the next time we called which was 1 hour and a half and then she said goodnight and I stayed on the call but with discords new update instead of staying on the call like I did in the past I was disconnected after 3 minutes so I think it would be a great idea to add a feature called stay in the call alone because it would really help some people in long distance relationships, alot, so pls add it🙏🙏🙏❤️

Completely agree on making this a toggle on/off feature - this way everyone is happy! People who need to conserve data can keep the option turned on (e.g. mobile users on data), and people who want the option to be able to stay in the call can switch it off.

Really hope Discord will consider this one, as the current default of calls continuing indefinitely is frying the life out of my poor laptop!

Glad to see that I am not the only one that thinks this is a great idea. My girlfriend and I both used the mobile app for sleep calls due to the long distance between us, just like other people in here.
And a toggle on/off for staying alone in private calls so the other person can join when ever they want is a great idea.

This is a joke that this thread is being completely ignored.

STOP IGNORING THIS THREAD IMMEDIATLY AND TAKE ACTION. People can code this fix in 2 seconds.

Discord Development is NOT "Discord's way or the highway". No application is!!!!!!!!

You all have to take into account what we say as consumer's and Discord is IGNORING it completely. STOP IT and start LISTENING.

DO THIS IMMEDIATLY. HOLY sh*& what a F- Tier company with this Support. I will give it until the end of the year, and if this company doesn't start listening to it's consumer's and I start seeing alot more QoL changes. I'm not going to pay for your WASTE of money Discord Nitro.

^^^^^ AND I HOPE EVERYONE WHO READS THIS FOLLOWS ME. MIGHT BE 5-6 PEOPLE ONLY BUT WHO CARES. 5-6 IS MORE THAN ZERO. GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME BRO ❤
