Take Server Ownership
As it currently stands, in order for Discord support to assist in transferring ownership to a new owner, your server must qualify for all of the following:
- Server must be public
- Server must have >100 members
- Owner must have not logged in at any point in the past 30 days
- New owner must have administrator or moderator privileges
However, this leaves a number of servers (mostly private) without a way to take ownership from an MIA owner, effectively ever. I understand that you can create a new mirror server, but that's still a pain for large private servers. I also understand that the above restrictions are likely to keep Discord support from becoming inundated with transfer requests, but I believe my below suggestion would reduce this occurrence.
To resolve this, my suggestion is to create a "Take Ownership" option that would appear under "Server Settings". This option would appear only in the following conditions and for the following members:
- The current owner hasn't logged in in 30 days or more
- The Transfer Ownership button would ONLY appear for members of that server who have the "Administrator" privilege. This would make it so that only trusted members could take ownership.
This would allow private servers to handle their own needs to make an ownership transfer, and Discord support staff would drastically have their requests for server transfers reduced, which I see as a win for both sides.
The above criteria is certainly flexible, but I think the overall idea is sound. Let me know what you all think.
