Fix Phone Verification
My account asks me to verify by phone nearly every other day. I have two factor authentication enabled. I connect from the same devices. Nobody else has logged into the account. I have not used a new device. Regardless, I continue to be asked to do the same phone verification over and over. Today, the verification told me "This phone number was recently used on a different account." The phone was definitely not used for a different account since I last verified. The only thing I can think of is that Discord flagged the phone to not be used after I used it two days ago, and the time length still hasn't expired, so now I have to use a different phone to verify the same account.
Discord needs to fix this phone verification system immediately, otherwise those of us that use Discord on a regular basis will need to switch platforms to ensure that we aren't disrupted during an event. I personally use discord to communicate with a guild. Many people I play with regularly make new accounts to get arround these verification problems. If I cant find a proper resolution I will be creating a Matrix server to provide all of us with an alternative platform that doesn't constantly have problems. Currently, I would need to purchase a new phone number to get my account verified, and the cost of doing so would be more money than paying for a Matrix server. So, from my perspective it is more affordable to leave Discord. The only reason I would not leave discord is to save other people the hassle of switching platforms.
I have opened, and will continue to open support tickets. So far, the support has been unhelpful in resolving this issue, and I expect that they will continue to be unhelpful. It is likely that support does not have the resources to correctly fix the verification problems, because they are problems in the way the platform is programmed, not problems that can be fixed with the type of tools available to support staff.
Hopefully other people can post to say that they have had similar problems. I've personally communicated with many. I might see if I can rally up a bunch of people to make this really apparent that it's a real issue and not just a random complaint. I understand that discord wants to get phone numbers to tie to the data they gather on their users, and I also understand that they want to keep spam and hacking minimized, but it is working against their own interests to lock out legitimate users from accounts, especially when users like myself have 2FA enabled and working.

istg discord just do smth abt this already we are all waiting for it to be fixed and i shit u not skype might actually be better :( if u fix this issue many people will be happy including me

They literally do not care at all to fix this 2+ year old issue. You can actually abuse this to lock other people's Discords accounts for fun if you know someone's phone number by creating a new one and attempting to verify it using that phone number. It will flag the real account associated with that number and get it locked up until the number "cools down", at which point you can do it again to keep locking it indefinitely.
Great feature, Discord. I don't think I'll be renewing my Nitro anytime soon.

The system sucks and they won't improve it, it doesn't exist to protect you in any way, it purely exists so discord can force you to give them your phone number and all IRL info. Thats the reason.
Discord purposesfully does this if they can't get enough info from you already. If you are using private browsing or just otherwhise discord doesn't get a lot of data about you, THEY WILL REQUIRE TO VERIFY VIA A PHONE
This is probably the MOST BRAINDEAD IDEA EVER INVENTED BY A BUNCH OF IMBAC#LS, but Discord seems to think otherwise. Infact the email responses seem to confirm this, and actually REAL REDDIT POSTS MADE BY DISCORD EMPLOYEES ALSO STATE THE SAME!! The employees try to say it in much of a neutral away, to not rile up anger. BUT WE MUST FIGHT AGAINTS THIS!!! DO NOT ACCEPT DISCORD PHONE VERIFICATION!!!! TELL EVERYONE TO MOVE TO MATRIX (or possibly guilded but matrix is better because guilded might start doing the same)

Even more comical, is the fact that I can literally login with my discord accounts to the discord support forum, this confirms that it's not an issue with bots.
But Discord is purposesfully trying to get users to give them their real info and prevent them from having alt accounts because "sAfEtY"... expect, it doesn't do anything to make people more safe, it doesn't stop bots, it doesn't make you more secure, hence it only exists for Discords tyrannical actions.

It's not an issue with Bots.
If they purely attempted to stop bots they would allow pre-paid phone numbers, or a way to verify you are not a bot.

ok i got this issue with 2 account , so i have 2 Discord account
my 1st account already use 2FA and phone number verify
then my 2nd account doesnt have both of them , and today i decide , well just in case maybe i should give my 2nd account security too , so i enable 2FA no problem , and i input my phone number ( same with my 1st account ) , Discord not give me warning if same number can't be use on different account
next is my 2nd account use my phone number and my 1st account automatically the phone number got remove by Discord and i got email about it
so i be like , oh alright then i remove phone number verify from my 2nd account
and i wanna use back my phone number for my 1st account
but oh boy , this drive me crazy , i cant login to my 1st account

I have the same problem, except that when I try to log into my alt account to remove my phone number and add it to my main it asks me for a verification and then to confirm my password for changes, when I click confirm it says that this phone number has recently been used on a different account, and doesnt let me log in. I've been trying to remove it for 2 days now but it doesnt let me log in which sucks a lot.
Im in touch with support currently, and I hope that they tell me how to fix the problem, though I must admit, they do reply fast, which is a good feature.
People have been writing about this problem for over 2 years now and Discord still hasnt fixed it which I think is total bull crap.

Same problem. More time trying to get signed in every few minutes than time actually using the platform. Terrible reason for so much PIA.

I was trying to join a new discord server and for some odd reason it created a new account and used my phone number with the new account.
I deleted the account but I still can't get the phone number back into my main account now.
Is there any fix for this?

Could this be a conflict of some sort between the iPhone app and the Mac desktop app if both are loaded?

I Can Completely Relate to everything you just explained in detail. Even to this day discord has this annoying problem and i know others who do too. It's very sad to see this

Sad that this still happens I argued with discord support to just remove the verification from my account but they wont it does a better job keeping humans out than the bots

I did get a DM saying things abt it but I still don't get the verification code :( they really need to fix this I can't even text onto one of my discord servers bc of the phone verification.

Discord absolutely DOES NOT need to access your phone number for any reason. The only reason they are doing it is because, like any other corporation that demands a phone number, they make more money grouping your info with a phone number when they sell it. This change is ridiculous and people should not stand for it.
