access to all DM history

There are plenty of people I have DMed in my time using Discord. Even if the DM is closed for a long time, once you chat again with that person, the DM history remains. There should be a way to see or list of all the people you have ever DMed regardless if you are friends or if the DM is closed or if you no longer share the same server. Data packages are so convoluted and confusing (since they are mostly code language which the average person cannot understand).

And why can't the search bar be used to look for closed DMs? why are your only options your own friends or mutual server members? What if I need evidence in a serious dispute that only one person has and I discord wont let me view that DM? That is still part of my chat history. I think I have a right to my chat history. Its not like Facebook messenger where you can delete whole conversation. You just wanted to clean up your chat list and closed the DM. I didn't know discord would make it impossible to look back on them.
