To integrate or support crypto, NFTs or blockchains is immoral plain and simple

I was considering signing up for Nitro so I could access some of Discord's other functions, but once I heard about this and the shoddy, focused "survey" they sent out, all consideration of EVER giving Discord money went out the window.

I love Discord as a service; it's revolutionized the way I organize my life and communicate with my friends. That being said, I'm ready to go back to fanfiction.net forums and facebook groups if that's what it takes. The integration of any kind of crypto, as well as showing public support for it, is absolutely immoral on every level. Not only is it the spawn of capitalism gone off the rails, but its harm towards an already destroyed environment is inexcusable.

In addition, the "survey" that was sent out which was algorithmecally sent only to users in crypto-focused Discords and didn't have an option to say "I am morally socially and financially opposed to crypto" is shady, disappointing, and straight up manipulative.

If Discord wants to salvage any of its public face with the millions of users it's seriously pissed off with this decision, it will not only backpedal, but also publically decry crpyto, NFTs, and blockchains. We as a species need to put the environment before profits and unfortunately corporations are the entities with the loudest voices.

I sincerely hope whatever person or people is in charge of these decisions takes a good long look at the damage they're doing, and decide in favor of the planet and their fellow humans, rather than profits that are more morally repugnant than standard capitalism.
