[Mobile] "Wave to say hi" blocking messages in DMs

When receiving a message from someone I've never had a conversation with, the "wave to say hi" button blocks the message they sent me. The wave prompt goes away once you send them a message, but I can't imagine why you'd be expected to answer without knowing what they said in the first place. It's like answering an SMS without reading it!

I spend hours per day on Discord, answering hundreds of support-related questions all DM'ing me directly - and since much of my time is spent on mobile this feature is particularly irritating.

I've contacted Discord twice about this issue and both times they claimed it was meant to be that way. Please make the "wave to say hi" prompts optional and stop forcing this pointless feature on people.
