The update that will be rolling out in the coming weeks is objectively a step down from our current system, with changes being made to accommodate newer users who are not familiar with the advantages that the discriminator system has.
Instead, Discord should focus on enhanced education for new users (or users in general) about how discriminators work and why they're used.
After the update is fully implemented, many high-profile Discord users will need to resort to adding numbers to the end of their username, diluting their identity. It is not reasonable to force long-time or high-profile users to have to accommodate such a drawback because of a lack of education by a minority of users (little over 40%, as Discord said in their blog post).
