A noncomphrensive list as to why I'm against the new username system

Less anonymity. Easier targeting from harassers, stalkers, scammers, and spammers. This is an IM'ing app. Privacy is a virtue. Most of us aren't trying to sell a brand or become hugely popular.
John#4205, John#5748, and John#7243 aren't exactly harder to remember than john4205, john5748, and john7243
Less incentive to keep nitro. Less sense of owning something unique. A unique, non-replicable user handle and discriminator is what people prize and why a lot of people pay $3 - $10 a month. It used to be one of the only nitro features available, and people were happy to shell out.
They criticize taking out special characters in discriminator usernames because of its unfairness to those from foreign countries, while promptly doing exactly that in their new system
You can add people without memorizing usernames regardless
There are better solutions community members have come up with (e.g. QR codes, friend codes, etc.)
Scalpers and bots can prepare to ho@rd* names because they've announced this well in advance. There will be a black market for unique names.
Unfair and arbitrary grandfathering system.
It's deeply unpopular. At least two Reddit polls with almost 200 votes each showed 90% of those surveyed are against the update.
The problems they fix have easier workarounds that don't create more problems e.g. fixing capitalization and disallowing certain special characters.
I vaguely remember seeing what people thought was the source for their 40% statistic--someone on Reddit posted a question from a poll administered. It was asking about if people knew what the name of a discriminator is. Not if they were able to use it--just the name. My old, technologically-incompetent mom who uses the app casually and infrequently has 0 issues with discriminators, something she has no idea what the name of is. She also doesn't know the term "web browser" but is magically able to check her email!
They cite the issue of there not being able to be multiple Mikes or Janes while making it so that there can really only be one of each
Potential issues with impersonation for smaller brands/influencers/etc.

Whoa - reddit polls with real statistics? The kind they absolutely did not cite in their original justification post? no way :0

You're right btw, their linked post for "people don't know what the discriminator is" is just a reddit post with a guy asking what it's called. that's it. Complete nonsense.
