Feature Request: SMS-Only Two-Factor Authentication (without app)
I see that this has been requested before, with no response from Discord staff, so I'm re-posting the request, as I know the sentiment is shared by many others who wish for improved account security without the need to download poorly reviewed apps.
It's entirely possible to support SMS-only 2FA in addition to their recommended approach of using authenticator apps, and in fact, it appears that Discord already supports this, they just disable the feature until you've authenticated with an app first! I believe the user should be allowed to decide what level of security they desire. Also, I see no reason why every single one of my healthcare and banking apps can support SMS-only two-factor authentication, yet a substantially less private social media platform (Discord) should strive for a higher level of security.
Is it really more secure two hide SMS authentication behind an app if it means that more users are going to reject 2FA in its entirety because they don't want to download the app? These users are being alienated and told their preferences can't be accommodated when they really can be, and they're refused better security as a result.
