Nitro Subscription through gifts

If you had no nitro subscription at all and someone gifted you nitro, it activates a subscription, but if you already have a subscription and you deactivated it and you claimed a gift during the time the subscription didn’t end, it doesn’t reactivate the subscription? This is like really contradictory. A gift should reactivate the sub.
