From what I've heard, if you weren't able to get the name but couldn't add the username as a friend, that meant it was "reserved" in the system by that point, but not yet in use by the account it was reserved for.  If a 2019 account got it, that likely means that somehow, the reservation probably went into the system for their account instead of yours.  Despite Discord stating that account username changes would roll out by year and Nitro status (2015 Nitro, 2015 Regular, 2016 Nitro, 2016 Regular, etc.), it's been a complete disaster because that's not what's happening.

You're not the first person experiencing this issue, people in servers I'm in are also having the same problems where accounts from 2019 - 2023 are getting access to reserved usernames even without Nitro on their accounts.

Regretfully, though I can't confirm this directly so take it with a grain of salt, I've seen people mention that reporting the issue doesn't yield any results either, only ending in the users being told "Sorry that this happened, but you can just add periods, underscores, or numbers to get the name you want."  Saw a thread on Twitter where someone got their username swiped and the person who took it tried to sell it back to them for $800, too, which is something we all knew was going to come out of this update.

I'm not sure if you'll be able to get your name back, but I wish you the best of luck and hope that you somehow do.  If we're lucky, this update will cause enough issues and headaches for Discord staff that they'll revert it, but in the mean time, just keep trying I guess.
