2FA not working?

I have SMS verification on and it wont give me an option to use it for logging in with 2FA, only an authentication app which I never connected. The backup codes for some reason never installed on my PC either, and I don't use the mobile app cause it's really janky. Tried emailing the support team and they told me that all I could do was delete the account? Dumb ass policy being able to delete someone's account with only an email and username yet you can't reset 2FA or try to download the backup codes despite having bank statements from months ago proving I own the account. Y'all got any solutions or suggestions?
Also, this needs to be changed. Discords terrible 2FA system isn't even secure in the first place. Anyone else remember the first few months when a simple loading image would steal that 2FA key? Bank statements are much much harder to get around. It's why most companies even with 2FA systems value them as proof of ownership for the account. I don't see any reason why it shouldn't be implemented. ESPECIALLY for people who have discord without 2FA enabled then get hacked and the hacker enables 2FA. Can't win right now with account security. You have 2FA enabled, you risk discord permanently locking you out of the account. You have 2FA disabled, you risk someone random permanently locking you out of the account.
