A warning regarding PayPal - your account may get disabled

My account from 2016 was disabled yesterday, due to PayPal unexpectedly placing a hold on the payment. There is no good reason for PayPal to do this. The subscription has been going on for many years now without issue. The funds cleared from my bank, and nothing related to my finances has changed. It is entirely uncalled for.

Discord has processed this hold as a chargeback, even though there has been no dispute or charge back initiated. I have proof from my bank showing no such dispute, and contacting PayPal which shows their system put a hold on the subscription because, I don't know, their AI said so. There was no reason for this.

I currently have a support ticket open and hope I can get my 2016 account back and being a nitro subscriber for many years without any issues.

While this issue is on PayPal's side, I urge discord to look further into this and not immediately ban accounts this happens to. Reading Reddit and here, this has happened to a few people, so it is an issue. Most people got their accounts back, and I hope I do too. However, it's very stressful and unnecessary.

If your account was recently disabled and you don't know why but use PayPal check your most recent payment to discord. Click on it and see if PayPal says you have an open issue on it. This may be why. PayPal isn't particularly useful as they say this unexplained hold is for 21 days. 

I also heard of this happening with other subscriptions like game subs, but i thought it was so rare it wouldn't  happen to me. I was wrong.  I will be moving all my recurring payments off PayPal as this is terrifying :(
