Why is there a giant bar on the UI and why can't I turn that off?

Why is there no option to turn off the giant controls bar at the bottom of the left bar? I don't need controls that big, I'm not that blind. There is no way to turn it off, minimize or anything else.

WHY DOES DISCORD FEEL USERS SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO CUSTOMIZE??? You keep adding “features” that no one wants and refuse to let us turn them off!
