allow self hosted servers

It would be useful to have software that we can put on a server, preferable linux/unix, and host our own servers on our own machines. There's nothing really wrong with the current existing servers provided, but I like having the server controlled by my own machine.

    I hope this happens soon, I have moved back to TS, I gotten sick of the laggy servers on discord.

    It's a shame this isn't getting much traction. The only negative comments are unrealistic or easily mitigatable.

    And it would actually be a feature worth paying for which is more than I can say for the rest of what Nitro offers.

    Right know we can't use discord because we will never allow unencrypted third party data storage.

    self hosted Discord would be the absolute dream. Sadly I don't have like any hope at all this will happen ever. Anyway, have my upvote.

    I would really love to host my own discord server, but I see an issue... Privacy. I would really need to know if I'm connecting to a self-hosted discord server, or a standard one. I dont want to expose my IP to some stranger.

    +if this self-host capability ever comes up, I'd stronlgy hope to get full discord functionalities available (1080p screen-sharing, banners... etc).

    @skyrrrrocket ... Why are you acting like a vegetarian meat eater?

    The only realistic thing Discord can do to help in privacy is to warn you that you are connecting to a private server (and maybe add a setting to not auto-connect you every time). If you want to keep your IP private you should do the work to anonymize your IP yourself.

    Asking discord to NOT host the server but at the same time asking discord to host an anonymization node  instead doesn't seem to address the issues most of us want to have a hosted server in the first place. Which was to ensure a fast and stable connection to said server.

    Considering you already mentioned screen-sharing I don't understand what you expect the dev team to do. you're basically asking for the impossible, and I don't think this feature will ever get implemented with posts such as yours

    hey man I think you misread my comment. I was not suggesting discord to act as a proxy, nor do anything to avoid giving my IP address to someone. As I said, "I would really need to *KNOW* if I'm connecting to a self-hosted discord server, or a standard one". I belive you didnt understand what I said...

    No need to act like that btw, I would love this feature as much as you... :)

    Tone it down a bit eh?  Your opinion is not the only one that matters.

    Also, I don't agree that a fast and stable connection is the reason most of us want self hosted servers.  There are a lot of comments in this thread citing security as the reason.  I've never had any issues with speed or stability, but I can't recommend discord to my organisation because it involves data pathways and storage at unknown and untrusted third parties.  If we could keep it entirely within our own private networks, then it would be a contender.

    This is a great idea. This could also allow companies and enterprises with vulnerable information to host discord servers for even safer chats in teams and cp-operations.
