Conversations within one voice channel
This is a really niche and crazy suggestion requiring a lot of work, fair warning.
We have a friends server with the same 8-12 people logging on everyday. When we get around 6+ people, it can get chaotic. With 2-3 conversations going on at the same time (and assuming you've set every member volume so that they are all the same), you can't hear the person talking in "your" conversation and neither can they hear you speak. Chaos ensues for 1-2 mins until people get in separate channels and continue their conversation.
However, when you're at a party, there can easily be 12 person in the same room having 4-5 different conversations at once and you can participate in one without the others interfering. That's because people aim their voices to the "center" of the conversation circle.
What if...
Voice channels could have an optionnal setting where you enable "conversations". Each member can (should?) set voice recognition for other members so that when they say a specific name, others' volumes are lowered and that specific person hears whoever spoke their name louder.
Ex.: Max, George, Rebecca, Stan, and Dr. Knuckles are in 1 voice channel.
Stan and Dr. Knuckles are talking with each other. Max calls George's name. George answers in the likes of "Yes Max?" and they begin a conversation.
Max has everyone's volume lowered except for George and vice-versa, automatically. As soon as someone calls for Rebecca, she "joins" the conversation and everyone's volume except for those in that specific conversation is lowered. Those already in that conversation begin hearing Rebecca louder.
This allows for fluid multiple conversations going on at once in one voice channel. Less chaos, less headaches, possibility to "end" that conversation and resume the group as normal at any time.
Neat yes?
