Feedback on account security

Hello :-)

I was unable to find a post about it via search, I hope I am not repeating the topic.

My goal is simply to find out why I, while logging into my usual account, had to:

1) Check a box that I wasn't a robot
2) Search for and mark trafficlights on a picture
3) Click a link on a mail I recieved to confirm that it is indeed me. Still. Not a robot, excellent at finding trafficlights (although I did had my doubts) and now, also owner of the email connected to the account.

Excuse my sarcasm here but is it not a bit too many sidequests to reach the end goal here?

I am all for security but I think you can at least remove one of them (Personally found Waldo in all the books but not all the kids did). Without being IT-tech or anything, I personally feel like my account is more secure if it also, on new log ins, requires a check-up on the mail.
