Require update before connectiong?

On my Linux system, DIscord will not launch without me updating. This is rude and not the normal practice for communication apps. To require a possibly-risky update to reach a possibly time-sensitive message is insensitive and overbearing.

Or am I getting this wrong and there is a way to simply run the previous version to access groups while putting the update in the normal queue of things which people can do in the course of events, allowing security checks and roll-outs of versions?
