Caret Browsing

Caret browsing is a feature available in modern web browsers that allows users to navigate web pages using the arrow keys. I personally use it as I love using the keyboard for nearly everything over a mouse.

Currently caret browsing is not supported on Discord in the slightest. If you open the web-based client, caret browsing will only hover around your status. On top of that, you can't even enable the feature on the desktop client, even though you technically can since its based on Electron, which is powered by Chromium, and caret browsing is a feature that is built into Chromium itself. On a technical level, all it would take to support caret browsing is adding a toggle for it in the client, which should be easy to do, and reworking how parts of the client are structured to make the friendlier to work with caret browsing.

My expected implementation is that you would use it to select individual messages, and paired with the context menu key you could for instance, move up for messages, and pin it using the context menu. Maybe add keyboard shortcuts for things like editing and reactions if caret browsing is enabled too to make it easier to execute common message interactions.
