2FA Dual Authentication and emails.
I have some issues regarding 2FA and other “Dual” authentication methods
(Please note. I use 2FA as short form for any “Dual” authentication method app on phone SMS or Email substitute as appropriate.)
- 2FA assumes I can have any number of 2FA (A.K.A. bloatware) apps on my mobile.
- 2FA never allows me to put the 2FA app on my phones memory card.
- 2FA never runs on my laptop or desktop
- 2FA assumes I can always get an SMS/email.
Why I must have a separate 2FA app on my phone for
- my work account
- my bank account
- my credit card
- my electricity account
- my water account
- my microsoft email account
- my android gmail phone account
- my...... infinite list of services account
I don't have a lot of money and I cannot afford a new mobile phone just to be able to use your service. I have a 16GB memory card in my phone it has 12GB free. But I cannot put any of the 2FA apps on it.
I don't have mobile reception in my house I need to go outside to the end of the road. Its OK in summer and during the day. However when its cold, wet and dark then going outside to get an SMS that is really annoying.
Usually what happens is the SMS code does not come through in time it then then expires and I have to go outside and try again.
In addition my internet connection is not the best so it drops out often. It auto reconnects so no big deal right.
NO!!
When I get reconnected I have new IP address so I need to login again.
OK this I understand but... I need to get SMS/emails etc.. again!!
The worst is when you try to login somewhere only to be told a verification code has been sent to your gmail account. You try to log in to gmail via the web browser only to be told a verification code has been sent to your hotmail account. Etc...
Can you arrogant people with your perfect always on, always connected, lives think about others who don't have the money and resources you have.
Please allow me to choose to just login with a user name and complicated password and if needs must I can change it every month.
Thank you.
(PS. Please Please dont do what Github does and send a verification code email every time you log in when you turn off 2FA.)
