Markdown in Custom Statuses

Hyperlinks would probably create a whole lot of issues especially when it comes to public servers but allowing the use or markup formatting would be nice.

For example being able to use bold and italics would suffice.

The way this could be done could be like:

    HTML Formatting:

    <b>Text</b> or <strong>Text</strong>

    Forum Style:

    Text

    Normal Discord Markdown

    **Text**

Edit: The main reason for this is just so that it can match up with the built-in playing status since the game shows in bold.

I agree, users across the discord community should be able to customize their status however they would like. We users should be able to have a status such as:

    READING A book,

    EATING Lunch,

    Sleeping...

It would be awesome and improve the Discord reputation if this feature were to be added.

@Splating I know. I’m talking about extending it to be able to put bold text in it.

100% agree on this, i tried to do this earlier and was a bit surprised that doing so just displays the symbols and doesnt convert it to formatting, it would be nice to have aswell and shoudnt do any harm.

Nah, simple is good. We don't need markdown in the userlist

You can't add links, but you can add Italics, Bold, and Bold Italics, along with different fonts. https://lingojam.com/BoldTextGenerator

Sans font is (if not exactly the same) close enough to the font used in the statuses.

    Just copy+paste into discord.

    Hope that helps! :)

+1  on this, seriously! This is such an obvious feature!

Also, it should be known that sites like LingoJam aren't a solution to this, because they tend to use unicode characters in ways they weren't rly meant for, leading to misaligned text and just not things that you want. It's way better to control for the formatting of text than to have users try to use and distribute hacks like this so they can do it themselves.

As user WhereIsThatRay? notes, allowing full markdown isn't gonna be a great idea, but I'm gonna diverge with them and suggest that full support for all of discord's inline markdown (rather than just bold and italics) would be the best. I have a few coding friends who have statuses like 𝚘𝚗𝙴𝚗𝚊𝚋𝚕𝚎(𝚝𝚑𝚒𝚜::𝚍𝚒𝚜𝚊𝚋𝚕𝚎), which would kinda be more in their element if they didn't have to use a unicode hack to render it. As see in this article, traditional discord markdown doesn't allow for named links anyways, other than in bot embeds.

I think most of today's websites and social networks use fancy text or <b>Text</b> or <strong>Text</strong>. Copying and pasting fancy text into the web is even easier. http://symbols123.com/

Hello everyone, I totally agree that adding markdown to custom statuses on Discord would be awesome! It would make our statuses way more expressive.

For example, being able to bold or italicize text would help highlight important stuff.

I’ve used a bold text generator before, and it really makes text stand out. Having this feature on Discord would definitely boost the user experience.
