Revert UI Changes or Make them Optional
Adding my voice to the chorus here, because this is the first time I've felt strongly enough about a Discord update to even actually find this forum. I agree with pretty much everything everyone else has said, for many of the same reasons, but the key trouble spots for me personally are:
1. The reactions pop-up. I hate it. I'm fortunate enough to not have a disability that would be further aggravated by this, but even for me it's STILL incredibly distracting and also hurtful on the eyes (I do suffer from migraines, and a constant flicker of color as I scroll through things is the last thing I need, talk about a surefire trigger). Like others, I have now turned off reactions entirely just to get rid of it, but that rankles given that we used to be able to keep and use reactions just fine without having a bright colored pop-up enforced on us during a standard reading experience.
2. Please revert the spacing changes. As others have stated, they make it very hard to read when you're looking at big blocks of text. You've now made the default spacing between lines big enough that it's harder to differentiate between that and someone's deliberate use of the shift/enter to break out a new paragraph. I use Discord primarily to co-write fiction with a partner, and this update wreaks havoc with our attempts to create deliberate formatting.
3. Please restore the lines between posts. I just liked it better, it made for a much easier on the eyes reading experience. This also just further aggravates the issue with the new spacing. That spacing between posts that is now the sole differentiator is no longer different enough from your default spacing to make that really clear. I know when you're looking at a single instance in isolation it seems clear, but it's important to remember that most people are interacting with Discord messages "in bulk" (for lack of a better term). When you are scrolling and reading through many many messages those spaces absolutely can and do start to blur.
Edited to add that unlike others I don't mind the faint highlighting of the message you're on, but I think that's just further support for making all of these features optional toggles. While there are a lot of things that seem to be universally hated, it's probably best to let people choose.
I do think it's imperative that you do at minimum make it so that we can choose, because if it can't be a toggle then this stuff needs to be removed. There's no benefit I see in this update that in any way equalizes with all the huge negatives such that I wouldn't rather see it all rolled back if that's the only option to get rid of things.

Absolutely agree with all three points.

Agreed. Well-put.

I agree on all points as well. This the only time I've ever even looked for this forum to submit feedback but you've nailed it. Good to see plenty of people are looking have these changes made at least toggle-able.

Agreed.

This all the way. At the very least, please give us the lines back.

It feels like lately, the updates have just been getting worse and worse. I was never really fussed about them before. Most of them were nice, actually. But the ones from the past week have simply cranked up my anxiety. The Nitro button in the Friends list panel? Invasive, and stressful because it can't be turned off. The activity panel in the middle of the friends list page? Waste of space, particularly since most people have Discord set to show their active game as their status. But now removing the lines between posts? The highlight when hovering the cursor over a message? The obnoxious pop-up of "most used reactions" when your cursor is over a message? It's all highly frustrating, distracting, and anxiety-inducing as a person who enjoyed the simplicity of Discord's UI/API.

This post is basically all my thought. including never finding this forum until now

The hover changes are also a power hog, I can hear my laptops fans go faster when I'm moving the cursor over them.

I wholeheartedly agree with these points. I didn't even know this forum existed before this update, to put into perspective just how bad I think it is to have sought this place out.

I would just say... before seeing this UI, I didn't think it was even possible to do an UI this ugly with just colors and fonts, but... in fact it is possible. GG Discord, you managed to disgust a lot of people here with flashy colors and impossible-to-read font.
But why not, if not rollbacking, just creating for a change a theme editor for clients apps instead ? That could be a real change (and a good one) to the app, without having to see a lot of negative comments about this.
