The New UI is Atrocious
Lots of people have already been posting about it. I get that. But I'm really hoping that if Discord sees the sheer volume of people who hate the new UI that maybe they'll actually listen. Please, Discord, don't drive yourself into the ground.
While other people have gone over a lot of the details much better than I could, I wanted to add my two cents and a few other things I noticed.
- The emoji reaction bar sucks.
- The message spacing sucks.
- I can't even begin to describe how much I hate the lack of space between the bottom message and the text box. It makes it look like I'm slightly scrolled up, and there's no space, and it makes me feel slightly claustrophobic, disoriented, and nauseated.
- The spacing between the lines of text and messages is just all sorts of wrong that I can't even figure out the precise details of.
- The dark hover over thingy. While a seemingly useful detail, can it maybe just be if we click on the message? Or, just die. I'm okay with that, too.
- The timestamp appearing to the left is something I didn't even notice at all until I was doing a more deliberate examination. Therefore, it's a relatively useless feature, but one I ultimately don't mind. Except I think the space for it is a bit stupid.
- When you have the unread message gap, the messages below it have no avatar or timestamp or name natively. A horrible choice.
- Did I mention how much the reaction bar sucks? Jumping over messages and what not.
- It's clunky and resource-intensive and just looks bad. Really, really bad.
- Okay, one good point is that with the emoji stuff being in a pop up, it makes my OCD slightly content as I can now more accurately predict where the message line will end, and it's the same as the other lines, but this sudden change is still very disorienting, which makes it unpleasant, and I liked the nice, cozy way it was before.
- The lack of linebreak stuff is really irritating and disorienting. I miss it.
- The New Message notificator. That red line thingy. I very much miss the old one. The new one is searingly bright and makes me feel bad, and I hate it being on the right side, all the way far away from the text I'm reading, being distracting and obtrusive and not good at all. But at least it isn't the worst change.
And now something about the previous update, because that bothered me, too.
- The DM area used to have a library menu and another menu that I've currently forgotten. Please bring these back, I miss them. There wasn't any reason to remove them.
Please, please Discord staff. If you love your userbase, you need to listen to us. I know you guys put in a lot of work to make Discord a wonderful experience, and for the most part, you've been really good about that! Focusing on useful new features and lots of little quality of life improvements, and it's mostly been a great thing. I've really enjoyed using Discord.
But this update? This update is all sorts of bad and wrong and awful. Please don't make big, clunky, and ugly UI changes like this all of a sudden. It's ugly, disorienting, nauseating, and causes issues for various people with their different disabilities and focus issues and such. This is a legitimate concern, not just a complaint about how it looks visually. I actually feel unwell when using Discord for extended periods as of this update, and I don't have reading disabilities or any other visual problems like seizures from flashing.
I'm sure I missed some bits here and there, and Discord being exhausting and stressful hasn't helped, but I've covered more than enough reasons why this update is bad. So I implore you to please listen to us and either get rid of it or give us an option for the old UI.

Fully agreed. At least give us the option to go back.

I really dislike the new message indicator. The red line feels aggressive, hurts my eyes and puts me in a bad mood. Is there no way to disable it at all? It's completely unnecessary.
