Back button functionality (actually a constructive post)
Let me start by saying that I think new Ul is great for gesture navigation, however its very jarring to use if you don't use (or have) them (Android 9 and earlier (which makes up roughly 88% of all android users as of march of 2020) and are used to how back button worked in older versions such as 10.2.8 and older.
In 10.2.8 in settings under "Behaviour" there used to be an option that would allow the user to open and close left panel (if they're in chat, the server panel would open, and if the server panel was open, pressing the back button would close it and go back to chat).
Another functionality that was removed because of that (I assume) was that you could double tap back button to open quick switcher. I'd argue that this felt natural to use because double tapping recent apps button would switch to last used app since Android N.
(Discord 10.2.8 behaviour settings) (turned off by default)
The thing that makes it jarring to use for some people is muscle memory. Just having that back button behaviour back as an option would make for a much less jarring transition to new Ul for a lot of people. Tapping back button or swiping from left to right and then tapping on a button for quick switcher is hard to get used to, and hey, app is more accessible that way.

I second this. While I'm not a fan of the new UI, I understand it probably won't go away, so it would just be nice to be able to open AND close the side panel with the back button, as was an option previously. It would be nice to just one tap return to a chat after checking the side bar.
