Option to have top-of-thread or pinned post displayed upon first entry into channel
Heya. So this is only sort of accessibility related in that I'm suggesting this to make the platform easier to use for elders in an education community I'm running. It's important for our server that they don't have to click too many things to access important channel info. The more cumbersome, the less accessible.
As such, I'm looking for a less cumbersome way to display the top of a thread (or alternatively a pinned post) without elders having to click anything at all.
The idea is to have an option that enables the following:
- Upon first entry into a channel, rather than landing at the current position in chat, people land at the very top of the thread and see the first message, which usually contains a topic and some instructions probably more in-depth than "channel topic"
- Includes a button that says something like "continue to current discussion" to jump to the present position in the thread.
- Only shows at first landings unless admin wants to enable it to show whenever they edit the first message. (may be useful for info changes)
- Option is enabled in server settings: "Show top-of-thread on first entry into channel"
- Alternatively you could implement a "landing post" or "announcement post" function, which displays said post upon entry to the channel. Admins just right click (or long press) a post and select "make landing post" or "make announcement post." Can jump to current position from there.
I know it seems weird to those who are Discord savvy but this is intended to help those new to discord, who are quite a bit older in age and don't know where to find the channel description or pinned messages off the bat. Plus everyone knows a ton of people don't look at pinned posts even though they where it is. Enabling a landing-post or top-of-thread view can greatly help to display important info for each topic.
Thank you for considering!
