Moderator Academy texts
Hey,
tonight I read the Moderator Academy and did the test, and while I can understand that it is not always possible to offer materials in many different languages, I think you should reread those texts and rewrite them in a bit easier way to make them accassable for non natives.
They were understandable, but I had to use the dictionary tonight a lot more than I usually do when reading/writing english. I would consider myself as fluent, I have a C1 certificate and will soon study abroad in english, I communicate both in written and in spoken form daily in english and never have any problems, but those texts in the Moderator Acadamy seemed for me like their purpose is to show "hey, we can write fancy texts which sounds highly educated with a lot of words a non natives probably never heard in their lifes." Of course, context makes a lot clear, and I surely looked up more words than neccessary to make sure I understood everything correct, but especially when the texts are the base for any kind of evaluation, like the moderator exam, understanability should be more important than fancy words, especially in an environment as international as discord.
Maybe let some non natives proofread those texts, and maybe not only those who are speaking english on a daily basis, but also those who have a bit more trouble with it. For me it was doable, but I know a lot of people who communicate in english in the community I moderate, but for whom this would have been overwhelming and who would have given up after the first three chapters.
Have a great day!
