Open Source Discord UI API
It'd be super nice to see a plugin system that can integrate into servers and clients more seamlessly than the current bot api does.
For example, something I'd like to see one day is a more dev-oriented version of discord that allows channels to instead of being text-oriented, they can pull up an embedded browser-view to embed services such as trello or github into discord, which would reduce context-switching for devs and allow us to put all of our tools in one place: our discord server.
This feature could be implemented by community devs, with a plugin written for the server that directly implements the browser view and a third channel type (text, voice, browser/app). The client side plugin would be downloaded from the server/some public repository hosted by the plugin devs, enabling the client application to render the browser view and put the click event handler on the channel based on channel type.
This api could also provide devs with methods to create other UI screens to do things like fully integrating github into discord, creating a discord native kanban board, creating a discord native polling/survey system, etc.
Plugins could be listed on discord, reviewed and verified by staff, or listed on third party sites like bots are.
Client-side only plugins should be a thing too, people can tweak the UI without any server-side dependencies.
This would set a tone for infinite community expansion of discord, making it a master of any trade.
Concerning undermining discord nitro, servers could be allowed a certain number of plugins based on its current server boosts, or some other model.
