Most of the time, the emoji I want doesn't exist...
We use Discord internally as well as for customer support. Our team is geographically distributed, and Discord chat ends up being our primary medium of communication (followed by Discord videoconferencing and email.)
We primarily use emojis to either react to existing text posts, or in the text of a response to a text post. It's much less common for someone to use emojis when initiating discussion.
Anyway, I'll want to react or respond to an internal post with "Ohhhh" or "Wow!" or "Oops" or "Thanks" or "Interesting", etc. But none of those emojis exist, and most times I search for something that seems like it 'ought' to be there, I instead see all these emojis that are really specific and don't seem very useful (e.g. :eye_in_speech_bubble:, :man_in_steamy_room:, :woman_bald:, :women_with_bunny_ears_partying:, :seven_legged_spider_in_19th_century_italian_bathtub_reading_the_kinsey_report_at_night:, etc.)
Perhaps you're limited to using the set of all emojis defined by some standards organization, but while it's cute to put animals and ice cream cones in your status, it seems silly that we don't have a very good set of emojis for the basic emotional out-of-band information we need to convey almost every day.

You could add custom emojis to servers (free) and use them anywhere (Nitro).
