Feature request: Disable @member pings by role

In large communities, individual member pings are a constant source of frustration for a significant minority of users. In our community, for example, we have a number of members who do not wish to be notified about ad-hoc organised games - preferring to sign up at their own leisure.

Communities that are formed around celebrities or larger influencers also suffer from this problem - many of the subjects of these communities want to remain a part of their fanbase, but commonly find that they must disable notifications entirely - thus potentially missing important information.

This really needs to change. In the same way roles can be @mentioned by users in a configurable fashion, we'd like to see @username be completely configurable too. Ideally, we'd like to set this up as a role-based system - meaning that when events take place that a user has signed up for, they can be reminded about their promise of participation. This would suit a number of communities where ad-hoc matchmaking is handled by a bot user.
