Can't update avatar without Nitro

Why must we pay to set our avatar? Everything is being monetized. I am on a fixed income and had planned to go Nitro at the end of the month when I have resources because I liked your program and wanted to support your work. But to force me to go Nitro has put me off voluntarily supporting Discord.

  I'm pretty sure you can add your avatar without nitro, but if it's a GIF avatar, then it does require nitro.

  You can add an avatar, however, if you're adding a GIF as an avatar, then it does require Nitro, unfortunately, the same thing with custom banners.
