Change read message history option
What it currently does:
Toggles whether or not users can see messages in a server in a channel they are not actively looking at.
What this is useful for: I have no idea, I have no idea what benefit it is to only allow a channel to be seen by people who are focused on that channel at the moment a message is sent in it. People on their phones who do literally anything else for even a second, people who check literally any other channel for a second, won't see new messages sent while they're not looking. Whatever the use-case is for this, it must be *extremely* important to someone at Discord.
What I (and people going back 4 years now) want it to do:
Toggle whether or not new users can see posts in the server/channel from before they joined the server/channel.
What this is useful for: new users can be prevented from seeing the years and years of messages sent in that server/channel from before they joined, something people have been asking for as an option for half a decade now.
The potential drawback:
People wouldn't be able to see pinned posts made before they joined - if this option was selected - but this is at the server owners/admins/mods discretion so they can do what they want with the option, or easily resolve this by having new members see important info upon joining in a welcome message.
Why has Discord not addressed this already:
In my experience, because these kinds of small but often requested changes/improvements are wholly ignored in favor of them working on bigger, flashier, usually failed experiments or gimmicks that don't tangibly improve the user experience.
What I would like: Discord to either implement this change, tell us they are working on it, or tell us to shut up and stop asking because they aren't going to do it no matter how many years we ask for.
