Users, individual messages, and entire Discord servers all have a multi-digit ID number that can be used in various cases. While you can use Discord entirely without knowing any of these ID numbers, some circumstances may arise where you need to get one, just in case. Here are the steps to find any of those!
Make sure you have Developer mode enabled
You'll find Developer Mode in User Settings > Advanced.
For User ID, right-click their username | For server ID, right-click the Server name above the text channel list | For message ID, right-click anywhere within the text message |
Important Note: To grab the Channel ID, shift+click the Copy ID button for a message. This will give you both the Message ID and Channel ID
Obtaining the Message Link on Desktop
To get the Message Link, click on the 3 dots to the far right of the message. You will see an option to Copy Link.
Copypasta time
In the right-click menu for any of the fields you've selected, you'll see the "Copy ID" option. Click it!
Once you've clicked "Copy ID", you'll have the message, user, or server ID copied to your clipboard. You're all set!
Bonus Round: Copying a Direct Message channel ID
For either group or individual DMs, the process is a little different. To get a DM channel ID, you'll need to open Discord in your browser at discord.com. Make sure the same account is logged in here as in your desktop account! To log out of an incorrect account, follow these steps.
Once you've got that sorted out, go ahead and open the DM you'd like the ID for:
Here, the channel ID will be the 18 digit number at the end of your URL:
Copy that number at the end of the URL and you'll be all good to go!
Keep in mind you’re also able to grab IDs using the mobile app.
