Make clicking a custom emoji not show a fullscreen Nitro ad!!!
This sucks! I just want to see what server the emoji is from/if it's public or not, and looks like I can't do that anymore.
Why did you break existing functionality to peddle your overpriced junk?? This really crosses the line for me..

Seriously. If this is a bug, please fix. Otherwise, there is no justification for this.
edit: Staff have replied. It is a bug. https://www.reddit.com/r/discordapp/comments/ys1m12/comment/ivyygsc/

I sent a ticket to Discord Support about this. I really hope they fix it cos if they did this deliberately, I'm going to be very angry

i sent a video of the bug to discord support, and they say this it is "working as intended", which implies that it's intentional. imo it's an awful change. allowing users to inspect emojis was a really nice feature and a very welcome addition, but they've ruined it by making it a 50% chance of getting a full-screen advertisement.
the change is unwelcome partly because it's principally misguided. advertising nitro will not lead to more nitro sales, because everybody on discord already knows about nitro - it's plastered all over the platform and impossible to miss.
if they want more nitro sales, they need to make nitro more salient and they should be less scummy as a company. breaking useful features for the sake of needlessly advertising nitro merely breeds more resentment towards discord and towards nitro.
the change doesn't even make sense from a logical standpoint either. this bug only affects external emojis from private servers. how exactly will buying nitro allow a user to use the emoji they clicked on? it's from a private server, making it inaccessible to them, even if they did have nitro.
discord really didn't think this through at all.
edit: the bug has been fixed, the old behavior is back!

If this in fact, is intentional, it is a massive backfire. I have thought of buying nitro at some point, but this will make sure I will not buy it. It is the absolute worst kind of trying to advertise, and at least for me, it has the exact opposite effect.
I would voice my honest opinion on this change, but that would be far from PG-13.
