Is there any way to disable these numbers that appear next to forum channels?

I'm in a server with forum channels. I have no interest in the content of these channels, so I've muted them. Despite being muted, these numbers (not even sure what they represent: unread topics?) still appear in the sidebar, which is distracting. I muted them for a reason!
