Discord ToS Changes - Protecting shared art from AI
With the release of the coming changes to Discord's Terms of Service, the art community is mainly concerned with some of the language removed from the document.
"We generally do not store the contents of video or voice calls or channels." and "We also don't store streaming content when you share your screen"
With the introduction of an AI tool that utilizes prompts to scrape the internet and produce an image, the already bleeding wound of AI 'art' so negatively impacting the original art community is reopened. And since the above quotes have been removed from the ToS on top of adding this new feature, people are concerned video, image, and text content might be stored and distributed for those purposes (and much more -- why would video calls need to be stored, anyway?).
I have read and re-read the Terms of Service, the Privacy policy, and the 'How long Discord keeps your information' documents. Everywhere data, especially user-owned content, is noted -- the purpose of keeping the app functioning as expected is indicated. But, without the above-quoted verbiage, users are concerned that the exclusive purpose of providing functional service (like ensuring even deleted account data remains in a channel they once posted in) could change.
The Point:
Can Discord put these concerns to rest? Is Discord's revamped ToS affording them the ability to store and use images shared on servers? Is it possible that AI scrapers will gain access to this data so they can use it for AI generators in the future? Are our videos, images, screenshares, and voice calls, following the changes in late march, going to be stored? Can images shared in servers be used for this new AI-prompt tool you guys are launching?

i don't think there's any way these 2 big changes weren't directly related. disgusting changes that nobody was asking for and that don't bring any value to anyone, and like NFTs shows discord is hopping onto a trend already steeped in a lot of controversy (and rightfully so) without thinking first. ive had my nitro sub since 2018 but this will likely be what causes me to cancel it.
