Markdown should be channel-/role-based opt-in
While markdown is nice for formatting things where they matter (like announcements, guidelines, etc), it has huge potential for abuse.
Consider the following:
# I NEED HELP
# HEY [at]everyone I NEED HELP
# {insert some more spam here}
But that's only the tip of the iceberg.
[Totally not malicious link](hxxps[:]//definitelymalicious[.]xyz)
While the latter still prompts the end users for confirmation, it won't stop 1) bad actors from trying with typoequatted/hijacked [sub]domains, and 2) users that accept any/all prompts by default without reading.
Please consider opt-in markdown based on certain channels and/or roles. Moderation is already difficult as it is, and this will only add more layers of effort on large community servers.
Thank you.

Discord have implemented an old chat mode switch for PTB and Canary. Maybe this could help a bit.

Wolfshards that's client-side, no? My suggestion was more geared towards managing Discord [community] servers where markdown would be disabled server-wide, or at least restricted to certain channels/roles
