i'm seeing, the only reason you're doing this change is for making it easier to add new friends. but in all my time using discord, i never have had such problem. people have phones and other technology, they can share their username through other social media

or instead, you can instead change the friend system if that's where the problem is

by implementing this change, the problem won't be fixed by keeping only one "@/phibi" username, but we'll be seeing phibi1, phibi2, phibi5345, and all other iterations of it. discriminators already do that for us in a non-ugly way. discord was unique in this way and a reason why so many of us prefer it over other sites

i already cancelled nitro, no reason to keep supporting when this change will mess up with a lot of us

+1 as well! i understand if its like "oh but the security issue of leaking" but the issue is theres already the user id code, if it was put into discord mainly and not a "turn setting on" that still would work better than making it more easy to impersonate youtubers or cause a lot more hacking and harassing for usernames.

+1 but I have nothing to contribute that hasn't been said already. This is an awful change.

I already did a +1 and gave my two cents... but it seems no one has posted this. This needs big attention!!!

I hate this idea. I don't know anyone who doesn't hate this idea. You're attempting to fix a system that isn't broken, why? These benefits are flimsy at best. If 40% of those surveyed don't understand the current system, why is that the problem of the 60% that do?

Constructive feedback about the new update : use the username on other social medias (like YouTube and Twitter) to guess who deserves the most an username.
For example, if someone steals my lulu5239 username, I would be able to get it back because of my hundreds of YouTube subscribers and Twitter followers, knowing that my username on both of these platforms also is Lulu5239.

I am VERY against this change. I think the 4 number system is an improvement over standard usernames, while it has limitations that you brought up in your post announcing it, i do not believe the downsides outweigh the benefits. otherwise im just gonna be glowkitty12345 all over the place. the modern web isnt shrinking, and i believe the old system is a better way forward. to simplify it, you could add friend codes, or other methods like a nearby feature, or a generate a temporary code, and give that out. this is all beside the point that it would increase impersonation.

This is the most community backlash I've seen since they implemented cryptowallet connection.

Here's my two cents. The only thing I mentioned that I haven't seen much of is that UI graphical change to account profiles is that the discriminator usernames look much better hierarchically. Take this up with your graphic designers, Discord.

    https://support.discord.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/14372966204951-Removal-of-discriminator-concerns

I'm paying for this. I will no longer be subscribing to nitro if my discriminator gets taken away because there's no appeal for me anymore other than global emotes, and unicode adds more an more emojis every year. Step it up.

  • I know for a fact I'll either lose my username, or I'll have to put in random letters and numbers just for it to be accepted, because many people seem to also have the username of "Icey Ash" and I won't be able to put in the spaces, or the "&" into my username AND tag. Even on other websites, (that I don't use but have accounts for) I had to add a letter or number JUST because the name "Icey Ash" was taken, all because there would be no way to tell my account from their account apart.
I hope they realize what they're doing is a mistake, because it doesn't help anyone, it makes everything more complicated, and people will either be impersonated, lose their username, or just leave discord completely, along with discord losing a lot of money from people canceling their subscriptions

This has gotta be one of the worst changes coming from Discord, I’m seriously considering moving to another platform.

This will add far too much struggle to making new usernames, and why add something nobody asked for?  The #0000 format was unique and it allowed for people to have the same usernames while still being different.  Changing this takes out half the point of nitro - so many people only have it because of their tag change, and so many people are considering dropping it because they don't like the change.
Why fix something if it doesn't need to be changed?
Especially since now you can't say "add me name#0000" since the usernames will be just like every other platform.  This is Discord's most unique feature.  Is that simply going to go thrown away?

Here is a change.org link.  At the time of posting, it's only 500 signatures away from it's goal of 5,000.

+1 again but I think it's pretty telling that the 4 whole people in this entire thread who do like this change are only citing that they personally like it because they personally dislike the discriminators-- but without actually addressing any of the very real issues with impersonation, account selling, privacy and safety, alienating anyone with a language with non latin characters, and etc that everyone else has brought up.

It needs to be abundantly clear that this isn't just a matter of personal taste. You can like the discriminators! You can dislike the discriminators! But that isn't the point. The point is that this was a very small issue complained about by the very small minority of the userbase-- and the linked post isn't even a reliable source as so many others have pointed out-- and now this massive change is being forced on the majority and causing several other issues to be exacerbated or just spawning new issues all together. Even if you dislike the discriminators, the point is that this is just plainly not a good solution and only causes more problems, which is why people are complaining about it.

That, and the fact people do actually like their discriminators lol

I've been a part of Discord since 2016, and the latest changes just keep not making sense anymore. Giving out names now is supposed to be easier, but now there will be names with a dozen numbers on the end of them, making it harder for them to remember. I do not see any positives, account selling will be worse, celebrity names will be stolen, and people can use special characters so that they make their names look like celebrities, it just doesn't make sense for this to exist.

I will be cancelling nitro if this change gets rolled out. I don't support companies that just ignore the community with useless changes no one asked for.

Respectfully, this has to be the worst idea I think you guys have come up with yet and it would be stupid on your part if you implemented it.
It removes a core part of discord nitro and is limiting people's expression of their profile. This DOESN'T need to be added?? Like I genuinely don't understand why this would need to be a thing....?? I think it's wonderful that you can have ANY username you want as long as you have a different tag number. And no, having a nickname of the username you want is not the same thing and doesn't make up for the fact that you don't have the username you want.

Randomly implementing this out of the blue and forcing millions of people to change their usernames after having the one they want is an awful idea. It's no where close to being fair because now, people are going to fight over usernames. Which wasn't a problem before but will become one if you implement this. And since you are rolling the update out slowly and informing older members first, this won't be fun or fair to the people who made accounts recently.
But I guess as long as it isn't a problem for you it doesn't matter, because you don't have to worry about fighting over the username you want !!

I don't think this will make things easier for anyone, including new users. You say you don't want users to hit a screen that's says "Your desired name is already taken" but this update literally CONTRADICTS that.
Having a tag number grants a person more privacy too, which this update would eliminate. Only people you gave your user and tag to could friend you, but now people will be searching up random usernames and adding people which will be very annoying and wouldn't have been a problem until now.

I can understand how someone accidentally adding the wrong person because they got their friends tag wrong or the username is in a font but that's THEIR problem, not mine and the two of them could very easily fix it themselves. And the fact that "40%" of people don't remember their tag isn't my problem either. It's not my fault they aren't smart enough to remember four digits.
Yes because remembering User#1234 is sooo difficult compared too xxusernamexx1234 because User was already taken.

Removing them all together just isn't necessary.

Literally just please consider the fact that this is going to hurt users instead of helping them. By letting older users take all the usernames first, newer users aren't able to get the user they want. Which isn't fair at all because as of right now, that's not a problem. But when this update is fully implemented it WILL BECOME A PROBLEM. Like sniping and selling users is going to be a huge issue and no one wants that especially if it can be avoided by simply NOT implementing this update.
Why are you catering to the lower percent anyway? 40% is lower than 60% by the way. It just doesn't make sense to me.
Please do not conform to other social medias by adding this update. Respectfully, no one wants it.

    Please reconsider this update

in my opinion i believe that the tags are good but there is a lot of ways somebody can impersonate somebody, but if discord is actually going to go through with this i think that everyone should have a fair chance at getting a tag so nobody gets there name sniped. like people who joined discord earlier get it first like what kinda fairness and sense does that make. at least make it fair to the whole community if your going to go through with this retard choice

I just started adding my discriminator to my art signatures and this is what's happening? Can't wait to have the change my name to xXFoxy★Lady69420Xx because there's a million other Foxy Ladys. Another issue is a rise of impersonators, name sellers and the likes if these changes make it. Thanks discord, very cool 😒😑

Discriminators help people's freedom of expression. I know people that like to change their usernames all the time, which I can imagine would be a lot harder if they have to be completely unique. I personally have had my username for years, never changed it since I made my account, and I'm very attached to it. I'd be heartbroken if I had to change it simply because someone else beat me to it.
And not to mention, the possibilities for impersonation, phishing, selling "good" usernames, etc. that everyone is mentioning. Please, don't remove discriminators. People like Discord because it's unique. Don't take that away.
