On Username Rollouts: Just Ask!
My personal feedback on the username rollouts is... why not just give individual accounts the ability to either retain their current username#discriminator format, OR pick a true username, and offer support for both?
The complaints that people have voice for switching formats are entirely valid- easier impersonation of other users, especially when picking new usernames, harder vetting of anyone who currently exists, and potentially more easy access to minors who use the same screenname cross-platform, or those who have large platforms.
The existing system apparently is still somewhat in place, going by the ability to still tag users by their name# as an alias- so why not simply offer users the choice? Any who HAVE had difficulty adding friends or family can switch to a simpler, easier to remember username, and any who don't or have fond attachments to their current username aren't being forced to make a wildly unpopular decision.
But that's just my 2 cents.
(P.S. saying "most users don't know what a discriminator is" from a single reddit thread? really? who gives a damn if we don't know what the technical and platform-dependent name for that set of 4 numbers is, as long as we know what it does. which, astoundingly, most people who use Discord do. SMH. least scientific poll being passed off as statistics I've ever seen in my life, y'all should be ashamed.)
