Irish Language Translation
Hello,
I've seen a few posts on this forum for a translation of the app into the Irish language. I would also like to voice support for this. Not only because it is an official EU language and there are plenty of people who speak and use Irish daily. Having a translation of the language opens up the door for more use of the language. You (discord), as a company would be helping a language that is endangered gain more of a presence in a modern space, this helps people use Irish and not have to resort to other languages that they would prefer not to be using or speaking.

Irish is very much an alive language. It has 170,000 L1 speakers, 73,000 of which use it daily outside of education. 43,557 additionally speak it in the North, where a major language act was just passed granting it recognition status. In 2016 there were 1,761,420 L2 speakers. In 2021 228,600 L2 speakers reported they could speak Irish as well. In the United States 18,815 L2 speakers report they can speak Irish. It is the first official language of Ireland and it takes legal precedent when it comes to the law, the English written law is considered a translation and not the legal precedent. It's legal classification under UNESCO is DE (Definitely Endangered) and it is an Official Language of the European Union. All of that aside, people should be able to use programs in the language they prefer and not be forced to use a language they don't wish to. Most major Operating Systems have an Irish language option and there has been an uptick in interest in the language recently, I myself am currently trying to learn and would like to be able to use programs in the language to help with immersion.

this is a great suggestion and would be a fantastic idea to help promote the irish language and give irish speakers a new avenue to contribute their knowledge to something as big as discord! and what a great way to promote irish as a functional language in the modern day to my younger generation!
i have an exemption for specific reasons but i go to irish secondary school where irish is a mandatory subject for everyone, and a family member of mine goes to an all-irish school; i'd love a way to expand my basic vocab by using Discord in irish, the same way some pick up phrases from playing familiar video games or using familiar websites in different languages... :)
give it a few years and i can definitely see Discord being mentioned somewhere in an irish leaving cert paper if it picks up popularity as an instant messaging & forum app with a working irish translation lol!!
