A lot of people are, understandably, against this update. Here is the masterpost that has been made against it. #1 overall on the feedback forums, and still growing. There's a link to a server for it in the post, and we courage you to share it around.

we've been complaining about it nonstop. i even made this account (because you need a separate account to send feedback for some reason) to express my thoughts, but neither of the posts i tried to make went through. it's not helping anyone, it's just mimicking twitter, which is not a platform i would suggest emulating right now. ridiculous is what it is.

I personally never memorized my discriminator, but like, in the rare instances that I'm adding someone on discord from IRL or another messaging client, I just pull out my phone/alt tab over to discord, grab my discriminator there, and show it/send it to the person

it really isn't that hard, I don't know why today's discord devs seem to be struggling with the concept so much

By the looks of it from what we know now about the unique usernames, it seems fair enough to remove the user's discriminator and replace it with a more readable and memorizable name.

Think of it like this, DIscord users can manipulate their usernames to special characters/symbols which makes it impossible to manually copy the name or even somehow pronounce it in real life to a friend. Discord makes it now easier for new and old users to connect without having a hard time trying to figure out what is the name and discriminator where everything can be readable in one name.

Okay, in the realm of fairness, think of it like this: discord users can manipulate their usernames to special characters/symbols, which lets users who live in countries that don't use the latin alphabet (sanskrit, cyrillic, literally the whole of east asia) to actually use the script they're most familiar with for their usernames for once.

Discord makes it now harder for new and old users to connect in these countries since they have to figure out what their names are because everything is in this unreadable script.

This update will be very bad, people are going to start selling accounts and honestly it’s going to make people hate the app more
