I think you misunderstand the reasons for Discord to not allow children under a certain age on their platforms. It is not all that much about the content they face.
The issue is, that it is not legal to collect data about people under a certain age. Discord technically is collecting data about you as soon as you start typing since all your messages get stored in their servers. There is absolutely no way around this so Discord cannot do what you suggest without breaking some really important laws for child safety and privacy.

Strictly, from a business point of view, considering these two options:

    1. Implement changes to allow people under 13 to use your services without collecting their data.
    2. Don't do anything and keep collecting data from people under 13 that lied about their age in order to use your services.

    What would you choose?

marcosjvc I am not sure if you are aware, but:

    1. Implementing a way of using Discord without collecting data is impossible. They are storing data as soon as someone writes in a chat. The age of Digital Consent is a world wide concept that protects children under the age of 13 and also prohibits them to use social media for a good reason - cause using social media in itself generates data which is stored. The only way to prevent storing data on social media is not to use them.

    2. Whenever an underage person is reported to and verified by the Discord Trust and Safety Team, the account gets deleted and with it all stored data. The data is not being kept.

What would I chose? Having a Trust and Safety Team that acutally reads tickets - and yes, Discord is the only social media that I have come accross that actually has a Trust and Safety team that reads tickets.

    Cheers.

    Hi, Windy

    1. I know that, but I don't think it's impossible, costly? yes, risky? maybe, but not impossible. And yes, I'm on the same boat of those who think children shouldn't be using social media.
    2. Yes, but I don't think most of those accounts are being reported, so, in the meantime, they keep collecting data. And, maybe, by the time the data was deleted, it might as well been already used, which wouldn't be Discord fault.

And yes, it is good to have a support team that actually does its job but, I wouldn't consider that a solution but a workaround.

    Regards.
