Option for text channel popups in overlay

Sometimes you're playing a game without a built-in text chat (or a single player game while chatting with friends) and there is someone who can't use their microphone. It would be really useful if you could assign a text channel to work with the overlay, and have new messages pop up briefly next to the voice chat icons. Going into the overlay menu just to view new messages can be tedious/disruptive.
