Delivery status of messages (delivered/readed)

There is an expectation, in social media apps as a whole, that if there is read functionality every user will have it enabled. One of the good things about discord is that there is not this functionality, as if there were there would always be pressure to enable read receipts and reply to messages instantly.

For this reason, I don't believe that 'delivered' or 'read' indicators are helpful in discord. You can already see when your client has transferred the message to the server (the message stops being greyed out). It doesn't seem like a good idea to me to go further.

Edit: removed final point (previously Your idea also seems like a repost-- couldn't you have just commented agreement to one of the existing ideas?), fair enough: I'll admit that the other posts didn't gain much traction and it's probably not a bad idea to let this get attention and see what the wider community believes. I've moved before and if I'm squarely in the minority I'll just have to look into moving again.

@p.kuryat I don't have an issue with the feature itself just so long as it can be turned off without any negatives: my issue is more that people have often become irritated towards me for having it off on other platforms, which has driven me away from them. If it were possible to ensure that people over here would not do that, I'd be all for the extra option that it brings to discord.

This understanding is important for me in the case when I sent the important message and I must know about the delivered status of this one cos from this may depend on time for solving problems or important questions. What do you think about this?

@r.plechen if I'm understanding you correctly, you're suggesting that you would like to be able to monitor the time it took for someone to respond: as a bot developer that's my exact issue with the feature. I quite often have people requesting stuff to which I would like to be able to consider my answer, and I'd like to not have to justify my decision to disable the feature, or to not answer a question even several hours after I have read it without people pestering me to enable the feature or asking why I didn't reply sooner.

While I understand your issue, I believe that this could be solved by asking the recipient to reply when they have received your message: I don't think that they should be made to do so as soon as they read your message.

I think that it's ok but only in private chats so there isn't a long list of user profiles under every message in a server
