Others can hear mic test but not me talking

I connected a headset to my pc and I can hear out of it. When I called my friend to see if it was working I could hear them but they couldnt hear me. I went into the discord settings and when I clicked to choose the input output device and it makes a ding noise they could hear the ding noise. I mixed and matched every setting and all they could ever hear was the ding. I just dont understand why they cant hear me talking. I also tried the push to talk thing and it cant hear me on that either
