Why is discord allowing my username to be claimed by someone else?
I was using a website and they had their discord link so I pressed it and the log in page came up, as soon as I entered my username it asked me to claim MY username! 🤦♂️ obviously I don't want to claim something that's already mine so I closed the page and went to the app to see if I had been hacked or something else like that. But no, it was just discord giving the opportunity for someone else to claim my username as their own, obviously I don't know what would've happened to my account if someone else claimed my username but I sure feel that if the username is already in use no one else should be able to claim it, or am I just that dumb!? also don't tell me its some security feature that discord uses, I am sat in front of a computer 6 days a week and use hundreds of thousands of websites and not a single one has ever asked me to claim my own username. Please sort yourself up discord!! 😒

There can be duplicate usernames because the username is not a key to their database. The key to their database is your user number. Thus the user-entered username is not checked for duplicity. User-entered text should never be used as a key to a db. So Discord actually did it right.
